Who is RateMyAgent?

RateMyAgent, established in 2014, is a publicly traded company on the ASX:RMY. Its goal is to assist homeowners in selecting the best real estate agent for their property sale by offering an impartial comparison service. The platform uniquely leverages verified customer reviews, linked to the property transaction to provide valuable insights into a potential agent's performance and working style.

Using this methodology ensures the greatest authenticity and genuineness of the reviewer as the review is linked to a public transaction eg. the property sale or successful rental of a property.

How does RateMyAgent make money?

Our platform is completely free for consumers and real estate agents. We don't and will not take a cut of agent commissions.

Instead, we offer subscription plans for agents and agencies that come with a range of digital marketing tools and services, including ad creation for popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google. These features do help enhance their online profiles and help boost their presence through marketing campaigns.

Most importantly, these subscriptions do not affect an agent's website ranking, review request options, or chances of winning our annual "Agent of the Year" award. For more information on our subscription services, visit this link.

How does RateMyAgent differ from other agent platforms?

Our goal is to provide you with the most transparent view of the local real estate market.

By showing all agents in the market, rather than just those who are paying a subscription or actively using our platform, you can have a more complete picture of the available options.

Other agent selection platforms typically do take a % of commission or a referral fee. It is in these platforms' interests to only show you the agents that have agreed to pay these fees. They do not normally show the best agent for your property.

RateMyAgent has never taken any commission from any agent in Australia or New Zealand. Our business model is subscription based.

Additionally, to ensure the authenticity of our agent reviews, we only accept feedback from parties directly involved in the transaction (the buyer & seller or landlord or tenant), who can provide the best insight into working with a specific agent and their customer experience.

How do agents receive reviews on RateMyAgent?

There are three ways to receive a review on RateMyAgent:

  • A buyer or seller can leave a review by visiting the agent's profile and clicking the "Leave a Review" button, provided they can prove involvement in a transaction within the past 12 months and follow our content guidelines.
  • An agent can manually request a review from a buyer or seller via email or SMS.
  • An agent can import a review from another platform, such as Testimonial Tree, Google etc, and have it verified by the reviewer.

What if an agent doesn't have a review for every sale?

While RateMyAgent has over 1.3 million reviews, it's possible to come across a profile without a review for every transaction. In that case, we suggest the following:

  • Check for the Trusted Agent or Top 20% badges on the agent's profile. A Trusted Agent badge means they have sent a review request for every transaction in the past 12 months, resulting in a more accurate rating. A Top 20% badge is awarded to agents who are in the top 20% nationwide for customer service based on the proportion of sales with positive reviews.
  • Reach out to the agent directly. It's not uncommon to ask for a reference or introduction to a previous client. All of their past sales are listed on their profile and you should ask to speak to the vendor on any particular properties that are similar to yours.

Please note that not everyone wants to leave a public review, and we will only remove a review if it violates our content guidelines or if requested by the reviewer.
