According to the 2017 annual Social Media Report from Sensis, 79% of internet users have a social media profile. This is a significant increase from 69% in the 2016 report.
And we use social media a lot – over half of us access it daily, while 35% use social media more than five times per day. So it’s no surprise the average daily time spent on social media is over 90 minutes!
Facebook is by far the preferred platform, used by 94% of those with a social media profile. LinkedIn and Twitter are also popular, used by over a quarter of Australians.

Unlike information from traditional mass media, information fed through social media platforms like Facebook usually comes from a friend, friend-of-a-friend or someone else close to the user’s immediate circle. The fewer the degrees of separation, the higher the level of trust.
