Agent of the Year: The real estate industry’s most anticipated awards

The RateMyAgent 2019 Agent of the Year Awards are the only awards to recognise agents and agencies who have been the most consistently recommended by the people that matter – customers who have sold their property (or leased in the case of the property management awards) in the last 12 months.

Now in their fifth year, the RateMyAgent annual awards have become an industry leader and winning a title is held in high regard by agents, agencies and consumers. The 2019 winners give people searching for an agent a clear indication of who is leading the way in customer service for the real estate industry in Australia.

The Agent of the Year Awards are the only awards in Australia, which recognise agents and agencies on a suburb level and have a specific focus on customer satisfaction. The awards also honour leading agents and agencies on a city, state and national level, highlighting the most recommended across the country so sellers can make informed choices.

“The Agent of the Year Awards are the only awards in Australia, which recognise agents on a suburb level and have a specific focus on customer satisfaction.”

Unique in their set up, all registered agents and agencies using RateMyAgent are automatically entered into the Agent of the Year Awards if they have been recommended by their customers. Agents do not need to pay a fee to enter or be recognised as a winning agent, these awards exist to help consumers identify benchmarks in their suburbs.

RateMyAgent is the leading agent review platform in Australia with an authentic review submitted every five minutes1. One in three properties sold in Australia has a RateMyAgent review attached to it, and to date the site has received over 570,000 independent verified reviews.

With over 34,000 claimed agent and agency profiles (to date) on RateMyAgent, the website, (launched just five years ago in 2014), already represents over 88% of active agents in the market and is a highly trusted source of information.

With such a large portion of the industry represented, the RateMyAgent 2019 Agent of the Year Awards rank as the most important awards of the year.

“Last year’s awards saw winners in 4,000 suburbs and this year we’re expecting to hand out close to
5,000 suburb awards.“

The 2019 Agent of the Year Awards are calculated by overlaying the following three metrics:

1) Percentage of sellers reviews received relative to the number of properties sold

2) Total number of properties sold

3) Total sales value of property sold

“The key to winning the title of Agent of the Year for your suburb, state, or even nationally, is to get reviews for all your 2018 sales. While sales value and the total number of recommendations are still key factors in determining the leading agents in the country, the number of recommendations an agent or agency has, relative to the number of properties sold, is key.” says RateMyAgent CEO and co-founder, Mark Armstrong.

“Each review an agent requests on RateMyAgent is linked to a property transaction. If an agent sells 100 houses, but only has 10 reviews then they only have a 10% success rate. But, if an agent sold 50 houses and had 40 recommendations, the success rate would be 80%,” says Armstrong.

The unique combination of RateMyAgent data means the 2019 Agent of the Year Awards highlight the agents who have high levels of customer satisfaction across the whole year. “The best agents don’t necessarily transact the most property. The best agents get good feedback from their customer, it’s as simple as that, this is anyone’s award to win.” says Armstrong.

“The RateMyAgent Agent of the Year Awards are the only real estate awards in Australia which focus on customer feedback as a lead indicator of success.”

1. An active agent is defined as having sold a property in the last 12 months.
2. Rate of reviews is calculated based on 2018 totals of 120000 / minutes in the year = review submitted every 3 minutes.
